Dover Delaware, 2012

On October 6, 2012 in Dover Delaware this blogger was confronted with claims of a lynching, an attempted lynching and a cover up that were not immediately credible ... Here is my weblog as I struggle to place in some kind of order all the information coming in since then. Although the topics in this blog have grown beyond the original case, still ongoing and unsolved to the minds of many, the focus is the same. Equal protection under the law.

I can't handle the truth!

August 28, 2015. I see a post on Facebook advising that there has been an officer involved shooting in Dover on South New Street. NAACP Dover Branch President La Mar Gunn was roundly abused on a couple of threads for reporting what he was told. Mr. Gunn was clear to convey that he was reporting information given to him that was not from any official source.

I headed to New Street to find other community activists and to help keep the street calm. Sometimes that means just staying away. This time it didn't agitated people everywhere. They wanted to talk to somebody and the cops didn't want to hear it. Police held a press conference at 1630 hours.

Later that day, Dover City Councilman David Anderson made the following statement in a FaceBook post
I hate lies. Here is the real story about the officer involved shooting on S. New Street today. The one shot was armed, would not put his weapon away, was 21, and shot in the leg."

 From the Milford Beacon -

"Officers recovered a .38-caliber handgun partially stuck into some grass and mud just north of where the shooting took place, according to the warrant. Detectives determined no one else had been present in the yard when Fletcher ran through and that the weapon had been thrown there recently as the mud on the gun still was wet."

From the official Dover Police Press release:

"  A loaded firearm was located in close proximity to Fletcher a short time later.  "

So how did the subject refuse to put his gun away then hide it after he was shot? Well, Councilman Anderson can't explain that one. I was roundly attacked for taking him to task for his premature inflammatory statement that might taint a jury. The thread is fascinating. Nobody could argue the facts of the case presented. I pointed out that witnesses in the area were never interviewed by police. That's pretty important to some investigators.

Here is a cell phone video taken anonymously at the scene. Nobody is sure who shot it at this point. One person having it on their FB wall deleted it, perhaps somebody used that person's device without their knowledge or the person decided to take the video(s) down.?

Anyway this video shows where the subject fell and if the above about being stuck to mud and grass is accurate relating to the gun, no way the subject was armed when he was shot. How do we know the gun was his? Might it be a 'stash' gun? Other importnant detail to note, yard was bone dry. Either that weapon was under something or the Police got it wet when they used a power washer to clean up blood clots. It wasn't rain. Check out the ground in this video.

So what really happened? I can't handle the truth!! Will we ever know for sure? We need body cameras on our cops now, for their protection and ours. As of this afternoon, two days later residents at the scene report no police have taken their statements. Interesting method of investigation.
